David paints vintage cowboys, landscapes and figures, hyper-realized through juiced-up colors, dramatized scenery, and other touches of idealism layered over the plain record of history. He employs the vocabulary of advertising and illustration, especially harkening back to the golden era of advertising. He seeks to put the viewer in a nostalgic narrative; a bittersweet environment where the boundaries of memory and longing are blurred.
