The Mexican wolf is the rarest subspecies of gray wolf in North America. The Mexican gray wolf once roamed throughout most of New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and Mexico. Persecution and, eventually, poisoning, began shortly after European settlement. On March 29, 1998, eleven captive wolves were released into the Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area.
According to the most recent survey released in early 2022, there were at least 196 Mexican wolves in the wild in New Mexico and Arizona. It marked the sixth straight year the population had increased.
It was an honor and privilege to paint this beautiful animal.
This one-of-a-kind original watercolor is 6″x8″ matted in cadet blue suede and framed in a white and gray frame.
All of my paintings are on Arches hot or cold press 140 lb. watercolor paper using Windsor and Newton professional grade watercolors. All mats are acid free, archival grade the back of the frame is sealed and ready to hang with coated wire. All mat and frame colors are approximate due to variations in screen colors. Each painting comes with a certificate of authenticity.
