Roy Hastick is a Santa Fe-based oil pastel artist and the founder of Hastick Gallery. His work defines a signature style of Vibrant Lyrical Abstract Expressionism, merging the vivid, rhythmic energy of his Caribbean roots with the serene majesty of the Northern New Mexico high desert.

Born in St. Thomas and raised among the hills of the British Virgin Islands, Roy’s earliest “canvases” were paper bags sketched on seaside rocks. After years spent in New York and Washington D.C., a 2017 visit to Santa Fe sparked a profound creative awakening. In 2018, he transitioned to the high desert permanently, establishing a dedicated studio practice within the thick adobe walls of his Santa Fe home.

Roy specializes in oil pastels, utilizing a unique “buttered” application technique. His work is characterized by high-relief impasto and sculptural palette knife textures that bring a three-dimensional life to Southwestern landscapes and tropical flora. By blending traditional hand-drawn “skeletons” with modern digital finishing, Roy creates Hybrid Art that explores the intersection of memory, resilience, and place.
