Description
JC Spock is a mixed media artist who creates contemporary western art with a nostalgic twist. Spock’s process involves layering acrylic paint, ink, pastel, pencil, and historical ephemera over photographs she has taken herself- or pulled from the public domain for her black-and-white depression-era series. The artist uses vintage documents from the 1800 – early 1900s, such as agricultural ledgers, local postcards, farmers almanacs, receipts, and advertisements to give historical context to her photographs. The artist is inspired by the history and aesthetics of the American West, and her creations visually tell that story. Her work is a rewarding scavenger hunt through time, speaking to a bygone era in a modern way.
JC Spock is currently represented by galleries in Whitefish, Montana; Bigfork, Montana; Tucson, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her work is in public and private collections across the United States, including the Mayo Clinic, Creighton University, and CFD Old West Museum’s permanent collection. Spock currently lives and works in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
