Description

A raw spessartine garnet crystal, captured in an organic electroformed copper cap and worn close to the heart. Each pendant is a genuine rough garnet crystal approximately 15 to 20mm, its natural dodecahedral crystal faces left partially exposed below the copper cap, deep dark burgundy-red shifting to rich ruby in the light. The antique copper develops a living patina that deepens over time. For the woman who reaches for something elemental, something made by hand, something that carries weight and warmth.

Why Spessartine Garnet

Spessartine is a manganese aluminum silicate garnet, its deep burgundy-red to orange-red color caused by manganese content. Found in Brazil, Madagascar, and Namibia, garnet has been used in jewelry and talismans for thousands of years. It is the January birthstone and the traditional gift for second anniversaries. Spessartine in particular is prized for its rich saturated color and natural dodecahedral crystal form, which gives each raw stone its distinctive geometric character. No mystical claims. Just a beautiful stone with a meaning that fits real life.

How This Handmade Garnet Necklace Is Made

Each pendant begins with a hand-selected raw spessartine garnet crystal chosen for its color, shape, and natural crystal faces. The stone is prepared and submerged in an electroforming bath where copper is slowly deposited over many hours, building up organically over the top of the stone in a granular textured cap that cannot be rushed or replicated by machine. The result is a setting that looks as though the earth itself grew around the crystal. No two are identical.

A Note on Stone Variation

Raw spessartine garnet ranges from deep dark burgundy-red to rich ruby-red, sometimes with a warm orange undertone. Each stone is unique in shape, size, and crystal face pattern. The pendant you receive will be approximately 15 to 20mm and will share the same character as the pieces shown, though no two are exactly alike. This is the nature of raw stone jewelry and part of what makes it special.

Care

Garnet is relatively durable but avoid hard impacts on the raw crystal edges. Remove before swimming, bathing, or applying lotions and perfumes. The antique copper patina will deepen naturally over time. Polish gently with a soft dry cloth if you prefer a brighter finish. Store dry.

Shipping Policy

SHIPPING POLICY

Pieces at Blackbird & Sage Studio are handcrafted in Santa Fe, some are made to order. Below are some of the current processing times before the piece is ready to ship.
  • Ready Made items ship out in 1 - 3 business days - these include most necklaces, beaded bracelets, ready made and ready to ship rings, & key chains.
  • Made to Order items ship in about a week - these are most rings, & some earrings & necklaces.
  • Bracelets and detailed pieces are more labor intensive and require a longer production time - they generally ship out in 7 - 14 days but check the listing for specific processing and shipping dates.
  • Processing times are generally listed in each item description.
All orders will be shipped with an accompanying tracking number.   DOMESTIC (US) ORDERS
  • Free Shipping - Orders over $75 are sent USPS First Class Ground Advantage at no charge.
  • Shipping - Orders under $75 are charged by weight. Methods and rates vary and chosen by the customer at checkout.
  • Upgraded Shipping - Available at checkout. Rates are automatically calculated by the shipping carrier so you are never overcharged for shipping.
ORDERS & ADDRESSES All orders are shipped to the address that you provide. Please verify your address carefully during checkout. For those instances where a purchase has been made but the shipping address is incorrect, please send a message to hello@blackbirdsagestudio.com ASAP. For your protection, your order will be cancelled and refunded so that you can reorder with the correct address.

Refund Policy

We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return. To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase. To start a return, you can contact us at hello@blackbirdsagestudio.com. Please note that returns will need to be sent to the following address: 245 Casados St, Apt A, Santa Fe, NM, 87501. If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted. Return shipping labels incur a flat rate of $5. You can always contact us for any return question at hello@blackbirdsagestudio.com.

Damages and issues Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right. Exceptions / non-returnable items Certain types of items cannot be returned, like perishable goods (such as food, flowers, or plants), custom products (such as special orders or personalized items), and personal care goods (such as beauty products). We also do not accept returns for hazardous materials, flammable liquids, or gases. Please get in touch if you have questions or concerns about your specific item. Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on custom made, custom commission, sale items or gift cards. Made-to-order items from standard listings are eligible for return. Custom commissions, specific stone requests, and special orders are non-returnable. Exchanges The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item. If items from a promotional bundle are returned, the order may be recalculated without the promotional discount.   European Union 14 day cooling off period Notwithstanding the above, if the merchandise is being shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason and without a justification. As above, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase. Refunds We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days.
