Description
Raw Ethiopian opal, each stone shifting through orange, gold, and green depending on the angle, arranged in a V and set in electroformed silver. The bright silver keeps the setting neutral and lets the fire in each stone do its own work. The oxidized recesses between cups frame each stone individually, giving the play of color room to read clearly.
Opal is associated with creativity, inspiration, and emotional depth. It is the birthstone for October. Wear it when you want something that catches the eye without announcing itself.
Why Ethiopian Opal
Ethiopian opals are hydrophane opals, meaning they are porous and can absorb water, which temporarily changes their appearance. They are mined primarily in the Wollo Province of Ethiopia and are known for their vivid, full-spectrum fire on a white or crystal base. Unlike Australian opals, Ethiopian opals often display color with a brightness and transparency that is visible even in raw, unpolished form. It is the birthstone for October. No mystical claims. Just one of the most visually complex stones on earth.

How This Handmade Opal Ring Is Made
Each stone is hand-selected for fire and character before the ring is built up around it through an electrolytic copper electroforming process. The copper grows directly around each stone, creating a setting completely unique to each piece. The chevron shape is formed by hand, then passed through the silver bath multiple times to build up a thick electroformed silver layer. The recessed areas are oxidized for contrast and depth.
A Note on Stone Variation
Ethiopian opal is a natural stone and each piece will vary significantly in color play, base tone, and pattern. Your ring will be similar in character to the one shown but entirely one of a kind. Note: as hydrophane opals, these stones can temporarily absorb water and may appear cloudy when wet. This is normal and reverses as they dry.
Care
Ethiopian opal is porous and should be kept away from prolonged water exposure, oils, and chemical cleaners. Remove before swimming, bathing, or applying lotions and perfumes. Store dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners. A light buff with a silver polishing cloth will restore the bright silver surfaces if desired.
