Description
Northern New Mexico is dotted with small farms and ranches, some dating from the original Spanish settlers. The old adobe houses were often modified with pitched roofs after the arrival of Americans.
Busting loose with a Japanese writing brush (or sumi brush) on rough watercolor paper is one of the most liberating ways to paint. The heavy texture of the paper catches the fast, ink-rich or pigment-loaded bristles, leaving behind beautiful “dry brush” textures and energetic, broken edges that are perfect for capturing the rugged history of Northern New Mexico’s architecture.
