Woodland Colors

I have always loved the palette of colors and shapes native to the landscape. Looking out of my studio window, I see a large group of willows in the Arroyo Chamiso. The arroyo  runs through Santa Fe from the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo mountains. Arroyos (dry washes) in the high desert provide the much needed water for the local flora and fauna.

A minimalist exploration of the high desert landscape, capturing the shifting light and native colors of the American West. This piece was created using quick, fluid strokes of a Japanese writing brush on rough watercolor paper, introducing an element of spontaneous energy. In this painting, I have experimented with metallic watercolors that catch the light, mirroring the subtle shimmer of the high desert environment.
